We offer a wide variety of procedures that enhance facial aesthetics. Our goal is a more youthful, refreshed look without the “operated look.”

You may see advertisements or marketing campaigns on different “lifts” or less invasive “no downtime” procedures. These are merely “short cuts” or abbreviated face lifts. Some patients with less skin may be a candidate for this shorter scar face lift.

During the consult your facial features will be examined to determine the best solution to achieve your aesthetic goals. Once a surgical plan is made, you will be informed as to the risks and potential complications as well as the expected outcome. Your questions and concerns will be addressed.

Buccal fat pad excision

Fatty chipmunk cheeks can be improved by buccal fat pad excision. It is a relatively simple procedure consisting of an incision inside the mouth under local anesthesia.

eyelid lift

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and muscle from both the upper and lower eyelids along with underlying fatty tissue. Blepharoplasty can improve drooping skin and bagginess. It can help improve vision in older patients who have hooding of their upper eyelids. Blepharoplasty will not remove “crow’s feet” or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under the eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.

Blepharoplasty surgery is customized for every patient, depending on his or her particular needs. It can be performed alone involving upper, lower or both eyelid regions or in conjuction with other surgical procedures of the eye, face, brow or nose.

Risks of eyelid surgery

The majority of patients do not experience complications, however you should discuss the risks and complications with Dr. Layton at your consultation.

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

Facelift surgery is an excellent way to improve facial contours that no longer reflect a patient’s youthful spirit. It can reduce deeper wrinkles, folds and fat deposits by removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissue (the SMAS).

Who is a good candidate for a facelift?

Anyone with loose, sagging skin of the face
Anyone who wishes to get rid of jowls and loose neck skin
Anyone who has a double chin or excess skin and fat at the neck
Anyone who wishes to have a refreshed appearance in their face and neck

The Procedure

Under general anesthesia, Dr. Layton will make a thin incision that extends from within the hairline above the ear, continuing in front and inside the ear, around the ear and into the back of the hairline. He does not require any shaving of hair. Excess skin is lifted and tightened. Deep layer surgery on the underlying tissue (the SMAS) is separated from the skin and lifted for crucial internal support that makes the lift last. Excess fat is removed from under the chin. Small drains are placed to be removed the following day. A dressing is applied that also is removed the first day after the procedure. You are then placed in a facelift garment for support. Sutures are removed at 5-7 days and the remaining sutures at 14 days post-op.

This is an outpatient procedure lasting from 3-4 hours. You will go home the same day and the doctor will see you the following day. You will be able to shower that day also after visiting the doctor and removing your dressing and drains.

Minimal pain is experienced by most patients and is easily controlled by pain medication. Swelling is mild in most patients and dissipates quickly after the initial 2 day peak swelling. Minimal bruising also dissipates quickly in most patients. Activities may be resumed within the first week and usually all by 3 weeks post-op.

Risks and Complications

Fortunately, significant complications from facelifts are rare. Thousands of people undergo successful facelifts each year and are very pleased with the results. Anyone considering a facelift or any other surgery, for that matter, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Upon your consultation, Dr. Layton will discuss the procedure and you will be given information about the risks and benefits of facelifts.

forehead or brow lift

Usually in combination with a facelift or blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) a brow lift, where indicated, can make a huge improvement in facial aesthetics. It can be done endoscopically or by direct excision. All scars are well hidden and barely detectable. The procedure is an outpatient one usually completed in an hour.

ear pinning (otoplasty)

Otoplasty or pinning back of protruding ears can be a life changing operation. Protruding ears can be a source of embarrassment and ridicule. The increase in self confidence can be dramatic when this problem is allieviated.

Otoplasty is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. It takes approximately 2 hours. A head band is worn for about 8 weeks post-op for reinforcement.
