breast AUGMENTATION
Dr. Layton performs hundreds of breast augmentation procedures each year including implants for fuller breasts, implants in conjunction with a breast lift for breasts that are sagging or have lost their fullness, and implant exchanges for patients who want larger implants or are ready to change their implants for a variety of reasons. Dr. Layton offers both saline and silicone implants.
During your consultation with Dr. Layton you will be given information to read about implants and the opportunity to ask questions. We believe the more information a patient has and the more informed they are results in a better patient with higher satisfaction. Also at the consultation, Dr. Layton will do a complete exam and help you determine the size implant to achieve the look you desire. After trying on implants, you will then be comfortable with the implant choice you have made.
There is typically no bruising and minimal swelling with an augmentation. The patient goes home with no bandages and returns in 2 weeks for a simple removal of sutures. At this visit, Dr. Layton will explain the massage technique he recommends each patient perform to help keep the implants soft.

breast enlargement
A breast augmentation procedure takes approximately 1 hour and is done most often under general anesthesia. The incisions are small (about 3 cm) and can be placed either in the breast crease, around the nipple/areolae or in the armpit. You have no bandage, just a steri-strip over the incision which stays for 2 weeks. You go home about an hour or two after the procedure.
About Breast Implants
There are two kinds of implants- saline or silicone. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of implant and in certain instances one may be preferred over the other. Dr. Layton will help you decide which is better to achieve the look you desire.
The Consultation
When considering breast surgery you want to not only know your surgeon but trust him to help you achieve the look you are desiring. The consultation gives you the opportunity to get to know Dr. Layton and discuss your goals with him. You will be given information about the procedure and a question and answer time with Dr. Layton. He will listen to your goals and tell you about the procedure. The doctor will then examine your breasts and take measurements to determine the perfect implant for you and your body . At the end of the consultation you will try on implants and see photos of other patients who have had augmentations with Dr. Layton.
Breast Implant Procedure
Choosing to enlarge your breasts with an implant is a very popular, easy surgery with over 300,000 performed each year according to the American Board of Plastic Surgery statistics. A small incision (about 3cm) and a pocket or space is created to receive the implant most often behind the pectoral muscle. The empty implant is inserted into the pocket and then filled with saline to the volume pre-determined. If silicone implants are used, the incision is slightly longer since the implants come pre-filled. Before closing the incisions, the placement, size and shape are evaluated. A single stitch is placed underneath the skin for closure. A steri-strip is placed over the stitch and remains until the 2 week follow-up appointment. The surgery takes less than an hour and after an hour or so in recovery, you are on your way home.This is such a great procedure as it is simple with very little down time and results in instant gratification.

Breast Lift or mastopexy procedure is to tighten, firm and lift the breasts. It can be done safely and successfully with or without an implant. We have perfected the technique however, which allows us the luxury of performing a lift and augmentation together in an attempt to form the perfect breast.
The Consultation
Who needs a breast lift?
Patients who are satisfied with the size of their breasts but not the position are generally patients who benefit from breast lift surgery. Through our experience, we will be able to examine you and determine whether a lift is needed to achieve your goals. Not every patient wants a lift, but it is our job to evaluate and determine what are the steps needed to provide the perfect breast.
In general the breast skin has stretched, allowing the nipple to fall too low. There is too much skin on the breast for the most aesthetically pleasing breast. If the nipple lies below the crease at the bottom of the breast, then a lift is preferred. Another good indicator is if you can not see any breast skin below the areola while standing and looking in the mirror.
All of this information will be discussed during the consultation. Measurements and demonstrations will be evaluated as we strive together to make the perfect breasts.
The Procedure
Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure or same day surgery with a quick return to normal activity. It is more complex than a breast augmentation but is usually completed in 2 hours or less. You will be prepared in the pre-op area and after adequate recovery, you will be discharged home. Simple bandages are placed with no wraps, bras or drains.
Follow up is at 2 weeks. Work can usually resume in 2 days.

Another breast procedure that we have vast experience in is breast reduction surgery. All of our breast reduction surgeries are combined with a breast lift to improve the shape and level of the breast. Our reduction reduction patients are some of the happiest who never expected to have normal, pretty breasts. Not only a huge relief from the reduction in size, but consistently and safely providing a lifted, perky, pretty breast. We would be happy to compare our results to anyone in the country.
The Consultation
In our comfortable office setting, we will examine and measure your breasts. You will be shown what to expect from the surgery size and shape. Many times insurance will cover most of the cost of the breast reduction surgery. This will also be discussed at your consultation, and if this is a possibility, a pre-determination letter and pictures will be sent to your insurance company for approval.
The Procedure
Breast reductions are performed at a surgery center as an outpatient surgery. The surgical plan and markings will be done in the pre-op area. At this time any of your last minute questions will be answered. Surgery takes about 2 hours. After a discharge from the recovery room, you will be sent home with post op instructions. You will most likely have a surgical drain in each breast and will be wrapped for support. You will be seen in follow up within the first 3 days and the drains will be removed. You will then be placed in a post-operative surgical support bra. You may resume non-strenous activities within a couple days. The sutures on your beautiful new breasts will be removed at your 2 week follow-up.

Because of the large volume of breast surgery and our reputation of excellence with superior results, we are often asked to reconstructive breast surgery. This encompasses breast restoration after cancer surgery, inherited breast deformities, developmental breast deformities, overdevelopment of men’s breasts as well as revisions from less than optimal or failed previous breast surgery.
