liposuction of the body
Liposuction is one of the most common aesthetic surgery procedures. It has been performed successfully and safely for a number of years by qualified surgeons. There are many different devices and types of liposuction but all are designed to produce the same result…removal of fat cells.
Liposuction is not a weight loss operation. Liposuction is to remove genetically pre-disposed abnormal depositions of fat. It is for troubled areas that are not in proportion to the rest of your body. With this pre-requisit, liposuction is a safe wonderful tool.
We have found a tool that we feel is the best means of performing liposuction. It is called “Tickle Lipo”. It does not use heat which is what a lot of the current marketed machines use. This allows harvesting of the fat atraumatically resulting in high survival rate of the fat cells. When desired, these fat cells can be transferred to other parts of the body for enhancement. This is going to be particularly interesting in the future for buttock and breast augmentation. The fat cells also have a high number of stem cells and may prove to be invaluable with the current stem cell research and banking research.
The Consult
In a comfortable and respectful way, your problem areas will be examined and the potential for improvement evaluated. A surgical plan will be formulated by you and Dr. Layton.
The Procedure
Most of the time liposuction procedures can be done in the office with local anesthesia. There is very little discomfort and you go home after the procedure. You always have the option of having you liposuction procedure under general anesthesia. We limit the amount of fat removed at a single procedure to ensure the utmost in patient safety.
You can expect mild bruising and discomfort after the procedure, but will be up and around the next day. No drains are employed but you will be required to wear a compression garment for 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
Buttock Augmentation
This procedure is becoming increasingly popular in body contouring. Historically this has been done with silicone implants, which we still use) but more recently, fat injections harvested from other parts of the body have been gaining interest.
We perform both procedures — buttock augmentation with implants and buttock augmentation with fat injections after liposuction .
tummy tuck (ABDOMINOPLASTY)
An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a good procedure for patients who have excess or loose abdominal skin or who have a protruding or out of proportion abdomen due to excess fatty tissue or loose abdominal muscles. These conditions can be due to pregnancy or weight gain and loss or simply inherited. They cannot be corrected through diet and exercise alone. During the consultation you will be able to discuss the areas of your abdomen that bother you and you and Dr. Layton can make a plan to help you achieve your goals for your abdomen whether that be with a full abdominoplasty, a mini-abdominoplasty, or liposuction of the abdomen.
The Procedure
The tummy tuck procedure starts with a horizontal incision made at or in the pubic hair line. This incision is lateral toward the pelvic bones. The length is determined according to the structure of your abdomen. An incision is also made around the naval to release the skin. This skin flap is then elevated or separated from the abdominal wall. The muscles and fascia of the abdominal wall are brought together with sutures to tighten the abdomen. Excess skin is then pulled tight and removed. The navel is brought up through a new hole in the skin but the position of the naval remains the same. The lateral incision is sutured with absorbable sutures underneath the skin. A drain is placed to remove fluid and dressings are applied.
Tummy tucks can take from 2-3 hours operating time. It is an outpatient procedure. You go home with post-op instructions for caring for your incision and drain. Drain and sutures are removed generally from 10-14 days after the procedure.
thigh lift
As with an arm lift or brachioplasty, a medial thigh lift removes the excess or hanging skin in the medial or inner thigh area. This is skin that is resistant to improvement by exercise or liposuction procedures.
The procedure takes about 2 hours and is done as an outpatient procedure. The final scar is hidden in the groin crease where the leg meets the pubis.
arm lift
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the armpit region to the elbow. The procedure is performed to:
Is it right for you? Candidates for an arm lift include adults with significant upper arm skin laxity, adults whose weight is stable and who are not significantly overweight, healthy adults who do not have medical conditions that can impair healing, non-smokers, and adults with realistic expectations.
Alternative treatments
Alternative forms of management consist of not treating the area at all. Suction assisted lipectomy surgery may be a surgical alternative to an arm lift if the individual has good skin tone and localized fatty deposits in the upper arm.
Risks and complications
Every surgical procedure involves a certain amount of risk and it is important you understand the risks involved with a brachioplasty. Although the majority of patients do not experience these complications, you should be aware and discuss with your surgeon the possible risks.
