Medial Thigh Lifts

Medical Thigh Lifts Houston

If fitness and weight loss efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, a surgical Thigh Lift may be right for you. Individuals with excess soft tissue along the inner or medial thigh region and/or the outer thigh may be candidates for a Thigh Lift. Generally, there are two types of Thigh Lifts: a Medial Thigh Lift and a Lateral Thigh Lift. A Thigh Lift reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body.

Excess skin of the medial thighs can be caused by weight loss, genetics or poor skin tone. It may be the source of embarrassment, causing a woman to avoid wearing shorts. A potential candidate for a Medial Thigh Lift may experience skin chaffing or rubbing together of the skin as they walk.

THE PROCEDURE – Medical Thigh Lifts Houston

A Medial Thigh Lift is performed in an accredited surgery center under general anesthesia. You will be marked before surgery and given a chance to ask any questions. The procedure takes approximately two hours but may be more or less, depending on the amount of excess skin and incisions used.

There are two incision options that vary depending on the area or areas to be treated, degree of correction and patient and doctor preference. These options and the appropriate treatment plan will be discussed, demonstrated and determined at your consultation. The most common technique used for a Medial Thigh Lift places incisions in the groin (the crease in the upper part of the leg where it meets the pubic bone), extending downward wrapping around toward the back of the thigh. The skin and fat are elevated and separated from the underlying muscle. The skin is redraped and pulled over the initial incision to determine the amount of excess to remove in order to provide the best shape and contour. The excess skin is then removed. Closure is done in a meticulous fashion to minimize scarring.

If there is a large amount of skin or the excess skin and fat extend down close to the knee, a longitudal incision down the medial aspect of the upper leg may be required to achieve the optimal results. As in the groin incision, skin and fat are elevated and separated from the underlying muscle and the excess skin and fat are re-draped and the excess removed. Dressings will then be placed. Drains may or may not be used.

You should expect to be up with some light walking on the first day following surgery. You should plan to be back to regular walking and daily activities two weeks following surgery. Exercise and strenuous activity should wait until eight weeks following surgery. For the groin incision, compression garments are not usually used; however, for a longitudal incision, they are worn for six weeks following surgery. Follow-up appointments are two weeks, six weeks and three months post-surgery. There may be an additional appointment for drain removal if a drain is placed.

Usually a Lateral Thigh Lift is performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or Body Lift but it can also be performed alone.

THE PROCEDURE – Medical Thigh Lifts Houston

Improving the contours of the outer thigh may require an incision extending from the groin around the natural curvature of the hip. Through the incision, Dr. Layton will tighten tissues for a smoother, better-toned lower body contour. Many incisions can be placed in strategic locations where they can be hidden by most types of clothing and swimwear. As in the Medial Thigh Lift, the excess fat and skin is elevated and separated from the underlying muscle and excised.
